MARBC Competitors/Handicapping

I got the schedule for the competition next week and wondered what the collective thinks of the line-up, notably the addition the addition of competitors from La Colombe. Note also that Mr. Caragay is in the clean-up position, poised to sweep it all at the end of the day!

The Last Place positioning is strictly because I still don't have a signature drink (yet) and I'll end up trying to figure one out until that afternoon.

Worse comes to worse, I still have that trusty Mocha Frappuccino recipe on standby (with very high-quality, fine chocolate, of course).

We all know that Jay chooses the last position to leave a lasting impression with the judges and the crowd. So we may not know what the signature drink will be until after he serves it, but what I'm wondering is... what will the soundtrack be?

Portfilter 62 A & B, of course.

He'll play the first 15 minutes on Tuesday, but you don't get to hear the second 15 minutes unless he makes the finals.

Is Katie planning to use the "____ you in the mouth," phrase? 'Cos I think that would cost her points. :shock:

We're ready. Belle, Mel and Sonia did trials here on Thursday.

I understand Brew Ha Ha did their rehearsals two weeks ago(although only two drinks per competitor).

Competition looks to be a bit stiffer this year, eh?

Will we know what his signature drink was even after he serves it?

Jay, I have revisited my 'secret ingredient" I told you about yesterday... scrapped it once, but it is back, 'cause I am just so damn intimidated by your appearance, now.

We are entering two "old folks" just to indimidate all you youngins. Besides, we amuse Belle, our true thoroughbred, who competes in the morning.

I've been meaning to write a blog entry about the competition BEFORE the competition but I'm running behind. It's 10PM and I still have to pack, make hotel reservations, print directions, do bills/print checks, ready mail - not to mention shower, sleep, get up and clean up the kiosk, stock the storeroom and make sure the place hasn't burned to the ground before I leave to PA. Of course, I still have a couple stops to make along the way to pickup some competition items, clothing and sundries - and be there in the afternoon. Bleech.

I'm thinking that I'll try my first run through of my presentation on Tuesday morning - just in time to realize that there's no longer time to change anything.

MARBC went today, but no announcements on finalists until 3pm EDT tomorrow (Thurs) following the NERBCs.

18 competitors, no OORs. Probably six competitors went over 17 mins - lots of first-timers. It ended with two consecutive PBJ themes (Troy and Jay) preceded by pyrotechnics of flashing lemon rinds (Melanie).

Rumor has it there is to be a hot-tub edition of PF being taped tonight.
