Dennhardt... are you back for another year? Have you decided?

Or are you gonna get to judging and exact your revenge on those who besmirched you?

The NWRBC organizing committee has been busy busy busy planning a fantastic competition and some smokin parties for the NWRBC weekend, Oct. 20-22.

I'm posting here to let y'all know that we've moved the Saturday night party from the Jupiter Hotel to the Downtown Stumptown cafe. (This will come as good news to anyone staying at the Jupiter who actually wants to get some sleep on Saturday night.)

Stay tuned to http://www.nwbarista.com for more updates, and see you all soon!

Just to quell the rumor however it started...

I received two phone calls in the past two days from very different parties stating that they'd heard that the NWRBC committee had lost our space for the competition, The Wonder Ballroom, and that we are "scrambling" to find a new location. This could not be further from the truth, so I just wanted to clear that up on here to keep this from spreading even further. Brent, Sarah, Duane, and myself were all at the Wonder just two days ago mapping out the space.

It's gonna be awesome guys! See you all then.

I'm stoked to see the competition this year. It's going to be tight with some of my favorite barista competing...

Michelle, did you get my email about volunteering... I'd love to help out. Sorry, I just don't have access to a fax machine anywhere I can think of...

Next question... who'll be continuing up to Seattle the following weekend for Coffee Fest?

hey guys --

the nwrbc needs you! if you're planning on being at the northwest regional barista competition in portland oct. 20-22, we could totally use your help as a volunteer. the job comes with a free nwrbc t-shirt, party invitations and plenty of hugs & kisses.

as much or as little (even just an hour or two) help would be much appreciated. please contact michelle campbell at 562-624-4187 or via email at mcampbell@scaa.org if you have time to volunteer. she needs to know her volunteers as soon as possible.

see y'all in p-town soon!

Any suggestions on where to stay for some Vancouver baristas that is close to the Albina Press or Stumptown where we don't have to drive afterwards?

The official hotel for the competition is the Jupiter Hotel. http://www.jupiterhotel.com/ it is walking distance from Stumptown Downtown ... everything is a cab ride from Albina.

They are close to being sold out but make sure to mention you are with the NWRBC.

Jupiter Hotel
800 E. Burnside.
Portland, OR. 97214
877.800.0004

For anyone that has not yet booked a room, do it ASAP, and try for the Jupiter.

IF the Jupe is sold out ... feel free to get a room under the American Barista & Coffee School corporate account at the hotels listed here on our site: http://coffeeschool.org/hotels.htm

Can't wait to meet and see everyone. Vancouver in the house!

Cute boys who can make a proper shot...

Postby Rich Westerfield on Wed Oct 18, 2006 8:46 pm

US Marine Corps: "The Few. The Proud. The Marines."

PGA: "These Guys Are Good"

NWRBC: "Cute Boys Who Can Make a Proper Shot of Espresso"

Favorite bit of hyperbole from above: "caffeine-loving hybrids of Vanessa Williams and Bobby Flay"

Of the four profiled at the end, we're putting a $2/win on Philip if for no other reason than ambidexterity... one only hopes this skill gets used on stage!

Naturally we're jealous of the coverage. The only article related to espresso in our paper this week was a pool story from Florida on 3rd places that featured only SBUX, Borders and B&N and talked about how Borders doesn't kick out wifi squatters because it's a "community place"... like we needed that type of awareness.

Nice article. But I would be INFURIATED if someone compared me to that asshole Bobby Flay.

But Vanessa Williams is doing a kick-ass job on "Ugly Betty."

Everyone did fucking awesome today at the comp.

Maki from Zoka gave an elegant, graceful performance. Kevin from The Albina Press gave a confident and cool performance, and I REALLY want to try his signature drink. Billy pulled off one of the most remarkable performances I have ever seen in terms of signature drink preparation(espresso caviar) and did not dissapoint. But, the highlight of the day for me was seeing my co-worker and friend, Ryan Dixon, pull off his first performance with a smile(and finish 2 minutes under time). Rob from Bakery Bar also gave an awesome first time performance.

I'm up tomorrow at 10:05 AM, but I have to get up at the ACOD to get to the competition space and test out my coffees. Wish me luck.
