The Coffee Science Manager coordinates and conducts scientific research, literature reviews and analysis for the Specialty Coffee Association and its members.
1.Develop goals, strategies, and philosophy for the conduct of original research in the coffee community.
2.Conduct literature reviews and analysis of existing research on coffee related science.
3.Effectively communicate with members and other stakeholders on research, ongoing science and current publications in coffee science.
4.Provide copy for communication, education and information around coffee science issues.
5.Serve as liaison to the ANSI and ISO for the SCAA.
6.Serve as the liaison with other coffee organizations as directed by the Executive Director.
7.Stay current on coffee issues and trends.
8.Develop appropriate budget proposals annually, supervise planning for budget expenditures and work with Director of Accounting to approve budgeted spending and proposed revenues.
9.Periodically represent the association at conventions, board meetings, educational events, etc as requested, including preparing and giving oral presentations.
10.Serve as a resource for the Statistics and Standards and Professional Development Committees of the SCAA.
11.Promote and assist in carrying out the Association’s mission, vision and strategic plan in a manner consistent with the Association’s stated values.
12.Exhibit flexible and innovative approaches while performing essential responsibilities and assignments and participating in strategic leadership, management and special project teams.
13.Embrace and actively participate in a variety of work teams as requested or assigned.
*Association headquarters are in Long Beach, CA however remote applicants will be considered.
Desired Skills & Experience
•Master of Science degree in a physical science is required.
•The candidate must be able to demonstrate very strong writing and communication skills.
•Successful candidate will have a mastery of statistics.
•Recent experience as a researcher, lab technician or scientist preferred.
•Coffee experience very strongly preferred.
•Bilingual or multi-lingual (English and Spanish, Portuguese or French) preferred.
